What is the South Dublin Community & Voluntary Forum? The Community Forum is a platform for community and voluntary organisations to exchange information, share experience and work collectively to voice common issues and concerns relating to the economic, social and cultural development of South Dublin County. The Community Forum facilitates the selection and appointment of community and voluntary representatives to the County Development Board, Strategic Policy Committees and other consultative mechanisms to realise the vision of the county strategy ‘South Dublin: A Place for People’ (cdb.southdublin.ie). the Community Forum is part of the Community and Voluntary Pillar of Social Partnership. Goals of the South Dublin Community Forum: - To provide a collective voice for community and voluntary organisations
- To influence the development of policy at regional and national level
- To participate in all the County Development Board structures effectively
- To act in the full interest of the Community and Voluntary Forum.
Values of the South Dublin Community Forum: - We do not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, socio-economic status, class, sexual orientation, skin colour or religion.
- We are non-political and work by consensus
- We are committed to social inclusion and building social capital working towards active citizenship
- We are committed to collaboration and respect among partner agencies and community groups
Main Objectives of the South Dublin Community Forum: - To promote public awareness of the work of the Community Forum and to actively seek maximum participation from its members in community and voluntary organisations
- To create opportunities to build the capacity of volunteers in local organisations to participate in new structures at county level
- To provide relevant progressive and structured training for our members in relation to policy and skills development
- To highlight the local impact of national issues and policies
- To communicate regularly with the member organisations, potential members and appropriate state and county based agencies
- To organise and participate in activities which strengthen the Community Forum
- To act in collaboration with sister organisations like the Community Platform to promote support and develop the community and voluntary sector to ensure full engagement in the democratic process by recognising the importance of social inclusion at every level in our community.
